Murals

and Other Commissioned Work

Joseph Chavez spends most of his time these days working on commissioned pieces for churches and cathedrals all over the country.

His commissioned works include giant wall murals like the St. Michael the Arch Angel mural (45 feet wide) to the Our Lady of Guadalupe tryptic that, when folded closed, is only 2 1/2 feet wide.

When Joseph is asked to do a commissioned piece, it isn't just a matter of asking what the dimensions are and what the subject should be.   Joseph spends a great deal of time consulting with the priest and other leaders, studying not only the space for the mural but also the full architecture of the cathedral.  He does a great deal of study into the Saint and scene that is to be depicted.  And he prays ... a lot, for divine inspiration for the work.

Joseph understands that his work is not to just create great Catholic art, but to paint creations that inspire and aid those who see it to deepen their religious faith and understand the significance of the Saint and story depicted in his artwork.

To consult with Joseph on a possible commissioned piece, please call him.  It does not cost just to discuss ideas and Joseph loves to discuss his faith and his work.
